PRESENTERS: Joëlle Khouzam, Bricker & Eckler LLP
Marie-Joëlle C. Khouzam, a partner in Bricker & Eckler LLP's Employment and Public Sector groups, counsels and defends management clients, including public entities, in labor and employment law matters such as discrimination and harassment, intentional torts, breach of contract, leave laws, and other issues affecting the employment relationship. Her work ranges from providing day-to-day advice on personnel issues, to helping with management develop and implement policies, to defending matters before various state and federal agencies and courts.
Joëlle conducts frequent in-house training to help management ensure compliance and avoid litigation, and is a frequent author and speaker on developing employment-law topics. Most recently, she has testified before the General Assembly and also advised clients on the legal impact of Ohio’s marijuana initiatives on workplaces.
Her municipal practice includes representation of the City of Grandview Heights, where she has been the appointed City Attorney since January 2006. Joëlle is also a firm believer in the value of mediation, representing clients and also serving as a retained mediator (neutral).
Joëlle chairs Bricker & Eckler’s Diversity & Inclusion committee, and serves on the boards of several central Ohio non-profits. She has been recognized among the Top 100 Ohio Lawyers, Top 50 Women Lawyers in Ohio, and Top 25 Women Lawyers in Columbus. She is also listed in Best Lawyers in America, Ohio Super Lawyers, and is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell and listed on its Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers. She has received the Ohio Diversity Council's "Multicultural Leader" and "Most Powerful and Influential Women" awards, and has been recognized with community service awards by the Northwest Rotary Club, the Columbus Bar Association, and the Grandview-Marble Cliff Area Chamber of Commerce.
