PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Attendees will learn about aspects of the sharing economy, and in particular short-term
rentals like Airbnb, that can affect municipalities both positively and adversely. Attendees will
also consider factors that should be weighed before implementing regulations in their own
communities.
PRESENTERS: Marie-Joelle Khouzam - Bricker & Eckler LLP
As a partner in Bricker & Eckler's Employment & Labor practice, Marie-Joelle C. Khouzam is part of clients'
trusted advisor teams, making sure they understand their legal responsibilities and the risks of non-
compliance on a wide range of employment issues. She provides advice on day-to-day issues, helps employers
develop policies, conducts onsite training, and defends clients before state and federal agencies and courts.
Joelle is also a frequent author and speaker on developing employment-law topics. Joelle also serves as the
City Attorney to Grandview Heights.
Joelle is past president of the Ohio Municipal Attorneys Association and serves on the Steering Committee of
the Ohio Management Lawyers Association. She was inducted as a fellow of the College of Labor &
Employment Lawyers; is listed in the International Who's Who of Management Labour & Employment
Lawyers; is consistently awarded the top peer rating of AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, and is on its
Bar Register of Preeminent Women. She has been included in Ohio Super Lawyers' Corporate Counsel,
Employment Law list, Top 25 Women Lawyers in Columbus, Top 50 Columbus SuperLawyers, and Top 50
Women Lawyers in Ohio, and is also named in Best Lawyers in America. She has received the Columbus Bar
Association's Community Service award, the Ohio Diversity Council's Most Powerful and Influential Women in
Ohio award, and the Northwest Rotary's Woman of the Year award. Joelle is also a NITA faculty instructor.
