OMAA/OML WEBINAR:
FIREFIGHTERS AND CANCER: A LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE - FOR AND AGAINST CAUSATION
FRIDAY, MARCH 24TH, 10:00AM-11:00AM EST
COST: $100 PER REGISTRANT - REGISTRATION LIMITED TO 30
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The Ohio Legislature recently passed SB 27, a bill that treats Ohio firefighters, both career and volunteer, differently than any other member of the workforce. Referred to as a cancer presumption bill, SB 27 singles out firefighters who develop cancer by providing a statutory presumption of causation in the firefighter’s case for workers’ compensation benefits. This presumption can be hugely beneficial to the firefighter, but it is not a blank check for compensation. There is still an initial burden of causation on the firefighter and evidence can be carefully presented by municipalities to challenge compensation. SB 27 will become effective law in mid-march, 2017. Firefighters are already getting ready to file their claims.
Join this webinar to learn more about how your municipality can actively manage cases filed pursuant to SB 27.
This one-hour webinar will be a discussion by Kristopher A. Kachline, The Chartwell Law Offices, LLP.
