PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Even though the salary test has been delayed (maybe forever) there are more lawsuits being filed against cities claiming violations of the FLSA. Areas of exposure (not covered by liability insurance) include the employer’s hourly rate, hours worked, use of compensatory time, volunteers, K-9 officers, cell phone use, on-call policies, and more. This session will outline the basics of the Fair Labor Standards Act and provide case reviews, example policies, checklists and defense strategies if your city is sued. This is a risk management approach to liability.
